NCPD OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED THE DISABILITY WEEK

The National Council of People with Disabilities (NCPD) organized the press conference to officially launch of the Disability Week on 24th November 2017 at Lemigo hotel. The press conference began at 10 A.M and was attended by different partners from MINALOC, MINISANTE, MINEDUC, MININFRA, MINIJUST, Media High Council and other key institutions like Rwanda Housing Authority.  During the press conference, each institution informed participants on what it has done to implement its assigned activities in   EDPRS 2 in line of People with Disabilities. While  he was giving his opening remarks, the President of NCPD Niyomugabo Romaliswelcomed all partners  attended and called upon all partners especially Media Fraternity to engage in supporting the preparation and celebration of Disability Week activities and mostly importantly to publish and disseminate these key events.

“We would love to pass on the message and to communicate to the public about the activities of the Disability week and also to create awareness about what our partners are doing in helping people with disabilities” said Niyomugabo Romalis  NCPD’s president. He also thanked the Government on what it is doing through various ministries that are addressing issues of Persons with Disabilities. “The Government is doing a lot in supporting people with disabilities and I would like to call upon other institutions and the private sector to work together with us in helping to address these issues” he added. The theme of IDPD 2017 is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all” can be responsive for Persons with Disabilities.

“NCPD in partnership with its partners will conduct accessibility to public buildings. The main objective of this activity is to raise awareness on removing barriers in public buildings in favour of Persons with Disabilities in order to create an inclusive and accessible society for all” says Niyomugabo. Also on 30th /11/2017, NCPD will organise a special event for children in line with the existing National Partnership for Children with Disabilities, the NCPD, NCC, in partnership with UNICEF Rwanda at Kigali Serena Hotel. On 1st December 2017 at ULK Stadium the Umbrella of persons with Disabilities fight HIV AIDS among of Persons with Disabilities and health promotion   will coordinate the activities of VTC and raise awareness on mechanism of fighting against HIV.
