NCPD TOOK THE FIRST STEP TO MAKE ITS OFFICES ACCESSIBLE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

“All buildings shall be equipped with the necessary facilities to enable persons with disabilities have access to services therein. In particular whether a public or private building meant to provide services to the public, must provide passage ways for persons with disabilities so as to have easy access to services being offered”.  (Ministerial order No 01/cab.M/09 of 27/07/2009. Article 3)

As the one of the responsibilities of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities is to monitor the respect of laws which protect persons with disabilities, it could set a good example for other public institutions in terms of the accessibility of its building(s).

According to the contract of lease signed on the November 2, 2011 between MININFRA and A&P Association represented by Mr Aloys Rusizana, NCPD requested the lessor to build a ramp on the rented buildings to facilitate Persons with Disability to have access to the offices upstairs.

Few days before the celebration of the International Day of Persons with disabilities held on December 3, 2012, the construction works began and are still under process.

The ramp will start from the ground near the gate near European Union and gives direct access to offices upstairs.
